The December Speakers Challenge will be conducted entirely Online, via video-calls between the participants and our judges. The Finale will be live-streamed for all other participants and their families to watch! 

Qualifiers: 10 minute slot 5-8 pm, 11th & 12th Dec 2019
Live-stream Finale: 11 am - 1 pm, 15th Dec 2019

The December Speakers Challenge will be in the form of an Informative Speech. It should describe, clarify, illustrate or define the chosen object, idea, concept or process. The speaker's job is to make a complex topic easier to understand for the audience and judges.

Topics (Choose any one)

How does the Internet work?

Explain the game of Sepak Takraw?

What is CRISPR and how does it work?

What is the Paris Agreement?

What is a cryptocurrency?

What is Satyagraha?

How does the Hubble telescope work?


The speaker should have completed 12 years and not turned 16 as on 31st December 2019 (Born between 1st Jan’04 and 31st Dec’07)


Registration fee is ₹ 750 per speaker. Early bird ₹ 500 if you register before 11 pm on 6th December. Registration closes at 11 pm on 9th December.

Qualifiers (Video-call)

Date & Time: 11th & 12th December, 5 - 8 pm. Slots of 10 minutes per speaker.

Time limit: 90 seconds + 10 extra seconds for wrapping up.

Each speaker will be emailed their individual scores along with a detailed feedback from the judge. Top 10 speakers will be invited to the Finale. 

Finale (Video-call with Live stream)

Date & Time: 15th December, 11 am - 1 pm. 
Time limit: 180 seconds + 10 extra seconds for wrapping up.
The Finale will be followed by the announcement of the winners.


  • Use of index cards is allowed, but only for reference of outline and key points. Reading verbatim is discouraged and will result in a penalty affecting the final score
  • The Judge will signal when the time is up for every speech, with 10 more seconds for the speaker to wrap-up. Points will be deducted for exceeding the time limit, as per the judge’s discretion.

Judging Criteria

  • 35% Effectiveness - Purpose achievement, Language use, Vocabulary.
  • 35% Speech content - Introduction-Body-Conclusion, Argument quality
  • 15% Body language - Posture, Eye contact, Gestures.
  • 15% Voice control - Volume, Projection, Pace, Intonation, Diction


1st prize: ₹ 3500; 2nd prize: ₹ 2500; 3rd prize: ₹ 1500. All Finalists will be receiving certificates. T&C apply.
